Situation

  • Urban Gateways is Chicago’s largest arts education non-profit that engages young people in school-based arts experiences to inspire creative and impact social change.  
  • The organization reaches over 100,000 young people across 250+ locations annually and needed a new CEO to assume leadership and set the course for the future. 
  • The Board of Directors engaged SRI for a comprehensive search. 

Challenge

  • Urban Gateways needs strong internal, operational leadership to manage the team, budget, work with school partners, artists and establish programming. 
  • In addition, the CEO is the external face of the organization with sponsors,  the Chicago Board of Education, Chicago Department of Arts Education, and other major public institutions.
  • We needed a CEO who could balance internal and external roles with an authentic connection to students and the arts community.  

Result

  • Leslé Honoré joined the leadership team of Urban Gateways bringing a wealth of strategic experience and community leadership, as well as a creative practice as a social justice artist and poet.
