Situation

  • EPCR is a not-for profit association created in 2014 and comprising 9 members: the 3 foremost Leagues of professional Club rugby in Europe and the 6 national Unions of rugby for England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.
  • Since April 2021, EPCR members put new agreements in place for their main competitions: the Heineken Champions Cup and the EPCR Challenge Cup, increasing the number of knockout matches and including the top 4 South African teams in the tournaments.
  • Due to the strong presence of France in the world of rugby, but limited representation on the Board, SRI was selected to find an experienced INED with board experience, a passion for rugby and particularly good knowledge of the French media landscape.

Challenge

  • Experience within a multi-cultural board.
  • The world of rugby faces challenges around digital transformation and fan engagement.
  • A need to strengthen relationships with French clubs.

Result

  • Arnaud Nourry was the Chairman and CEO of Hachette, part of Lagardère Publishing, for 18  years until 2021. With his international content and publishing experience, Arnaud has been able to grow Hachette’s impact in the publishing world and lead the company’s digital transformation.
